Artist’s Table with Jacques Pépin and Itzhak Perlman:
Artist’s Table, premiering in April 2008, is a one-hour special that brings together two extraordinary personalities through food and conversation. Hosted by world-acclaimed chef Jacques Pépin and featuring renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman, Artist’s Table explores the nature of creativity through the prism of food and wine, and the intersection between the culinary and non-culinary arts.
Jacques Pépin is esteemed as a world-acclaimed chef, author and popular television personality. Less known is his lifelong passion for and involvement in the non-culinary arts. Jacques is an artist, ceramist and music lover whose relationship with the arts is deep. Artist’s Table is conceived as a television special that allows Jacques to bring together these two facets—his genius as a chef and his interest in the arts—through the planning, presentation and sharing of a meal with a giant in the creative arts who shares Jacques’ passion for food and wine. Freed from the constraints of a traditional cooking show, Artist’s Table enables Jacques to combine his love for the culinary arts with his love for the arts that lie beyond the kitchen table.
Artist’s Table brings Jacques together with the master of the violin, Itzhak Perlman. Mr. Perlman, the reigning virtuoso of the violin in the world today, is also a passionate cook and wine connoisseur. Like Jacques, he is a great raconteur who delights in conversation around the table. Filmed on location, Jacques talks and cooks with Mr. Perlman in his home and kitchen where the two men explore their passions for music, food and wine. The heart of the show is a highly original exploration of the creative process as Jacques discovers how Itzhak Perlman’s musical creativity is reflected in his cooking and his relationship to food and wine.
